AI Meets Agile: Speaking at Cognition 2025

    The Invitation and the Theme

When I received the invitation to speak at Cognition 2025 — a virtual Agile conference hosted by SS Agile Gurus and Product Practioners Group of India (PPGI), and proudly sponsored by Scrum Alliance — I felt both honored and excited. The event, led by Sharath Adsumillie, Satish Kolla, and Dr. Rituraj Patil, brought together passionate practitioners from around the globe. It was a chance to not only share ideas but also learn from a thriving Agile community. I proposed a talk close to my heart: “From Insights to Impact: How AI Is Shaping Smarter Decisions in Agile Teams.” It was an opportunity to showcase real-world learnings from my teams—and I couldn’t wait to get started.

    From Proposal to Presentation

The idea for my session emerged from practical challenges I’ve seen Agile teams face—especially when intuition, not data, drives decisions. My proposal blended this real-world tension with a hopeful possibility: using AI as a catalyst to move from gut-based calls to grounded insights. I structured the session around a relatable metaphor—Agile as the compass, data as the map, and AI as the GPS that guides the way. I also included a case study, tools we experimented with, and a responsible adoption road map. Once accepted, I got to work designing an experience that would be engaging, ethical, and actionable for Agile practitioners at any stage.

Setting the Stage: Kicking Off the Talk

The virtual room opened, faces filled the Zoom gallery, and I felt a surge of warmth and anticipation. I began by sharing my journey—from starting in L3 support to becoming an Agile Coach and mentor. It was important to connect personally before diving into AI. I introduced the metaphor that anchored the session:

“Agile is our compass, data is the map, and AI is the GPS”

It instantly resonated. This set the tone for the next 45 minutes—not just as a talk about tools, but as a conversation about navigating uncertainty, improving team outcomes, and making better decisions with clarity and care.

The Journey: Slide by Slide, Insight by Insight

As someone who once feared AI would take over my job, it was surprisingly liberating to be the one explaining how it can actually help us work better—without turning us into robots.
The talk unfolded in thoughtful layers. We began by exploring decision gaps in Agile—over-commitment, gut-driven planning, and lack of visibility. I walked the audience through how AI could support core ceremonies: from planning and stand-ups to backlog grooming and retros. I shared real examples from my teams—how feedback loops improved, estimations got smarter, and blockers were flagged earlier. The case study of Company Z highlighted a measurable transformation. Along the way, I emphasized readiness, ethics, and transparency. The flow wasn’t about tech hype—it was about enhancing the Agile mindset, empowering teams with insight, and keeping humans at the center of it all.

    The Highlight: A Brilliant Q&A

If the talk was the heart of the session, the Q&A was its pulse. The final 15 minutes turned into an open, honest, and high-energy conversation with the audience. Participants posed thoughtful questions—from tool selection to handling AI resistance in teams. Some shared real challenges they were facing, and we explored how AI might help untangle those knots. One attendee asked, “Can AI help my team finish a sprint on time for once?” We both laughed—and then talked through a backlog estimation assistant that might help with that.
It was deeply interactive, and I appreciated how curious and engaged the audience was. Their reflections showed they weren’t just listening—they were already thinking about application. For me, that exchange brought the session full circle—from sharing a story to co-creating possibilities.

The Feedback That Made My Day

After the session, the feedback that came in was incredibly uplifting. Many attendees reached out to share how the structure and clarity of the slides made the content easy to absorb. Some appreciated the balance of strategy and practicality—how the session didn’t just talk about AI, but showed how to start small and stay ethical. Several mentioned how they enjoyed the storytelling flow, and how the GPS metaphor stayed with them. Most rewarding were the messages saying, “I’m trying this in my next sprint.” That’s exactly what I’d hoped for: to spark curiosity, confidence, and change through the lens of AI.

    Capturing the Moment

One of the joys of virtual conferences is that even across borders and time zones, we still find connection—and Zoom gave us a glimpse of that magic. I took a few pictures with the lovely audience at the end of the session—smiling faces, thumbs-ups, and waves that reminded me why we do what we do. It may not have been a physical room, but the energy was real. Those snapshots are more than just mementos—they capture the spirit of learning, exchange, and community that Cognition 2025 was all about. I’ll always look back on them as a proud, meaningful moment.

Final Thoughts: AI as an Agile Ally

As I wrapped up the session, I left the audience with one key message: AI is not here to replace Agile—it’s here to elevate it. The tools, case studies, and tips I shared were just a starting point. True transformation happens when teams adopt AI not just as a solution, but as a thinking partner—one that enhances judgment, not replaces it.
I signed off feeling wired and inspired, and then promptly devoured a chocolate bar to celebrate surviving 45 minutes of live speaking without a single tech glitch. A win is a win.
This talk wasn’t just a personal milestone, it was a reminder of the responsibility we carry as practitioners. To lead with clarity, curiosity, and care. And to remember—when humans and AI work together with purpose, we all go further.
